On Sunday, January 11, 2009, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, the Napa Valley
Dixieland Jazz Society invites you to enjoy an afternoon of traditional
jazz featuring:

Ted Shafer's Jelly Roll Jazz Band

At the Lodge, 2840 Soscol Avenue, in Napa, California.

Directions from Vallejo/Fairfield:
Go north on Hwy 29 to the "Lincoln Ave." off ramp. Go right on Lincoln
to Soscol, left at Soscol to the Lodge. The Lodge is only about 0.2
miles past Pueblo Ave. on the right.

Directions from Sonoma/Santa Rosa/Petaluma:
Going east on Hwy 12/121 from Sonoma, go north (left) at Hwy 29 to the
next exit ( 121/Imola Avenue/Lake Berryessa ) and go right.  Take Imola
to the 5th light which is at Soscol Avenue and go left on Soscol about
3 miles, through 8 traffic signals.  The Lodge is only 0.2 miles past
the 8th traffic signal at Pueblo Avenue on the right side.

Admission is $ 10.00.  If you belong to another trad jazz club, you can
get in for $ 9.00.  For members of Napa Valley Dixieland Jazz Society,
admission is $ 8.00.  For ages 12-17, admission is $ 3.00 and children
under 12 get in FREE.  The Napa Valley Dixieland Jazz Society meets on
the SECOND Sunday of each month.  The program, which starts at 1:00 PM
and lasts until 5:00 PM, has 3 sets by the featured band alternating
with 3 jam sets.  Jam Set musicians are welcome!

Since 1959, Ted Shafer has led both two cornet bands and smaller New
Orleans style combos under the "Jelly Roll Jazz Band" name.

Few contemporary traditional bands can match the breadth and scope of
the JRJB repertoire: obscurities associated with Ma Rainey, Tiny Parham,
Johnny Dodds, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and the Dixieland Jug
Blowers; compositions by Lu Watters and Turk Murphy and originals by
young revivalists such as Charlie Sonnanstine, Roy Giomi, Robin Wetterau
and Sanford Newbauer.  OUR SESSION WILL KICK OFF HIS 50TH YEAR.

on Sunday, February 8th, 2009 from 1-5 PM at the same location.
