For those on the list whose jazz tastes include the more modern
styles, you might be interested in "Jazz Improve NY" magazine. You can
download it free, and sign up for FREE monthly email delivery.

This months edition (Feb 2009) includes a downloadable Lester Young
solo on" Pennies from Heaven."

You can also download back issues to July 2005. Each month profiles a
jazz artist and there are some featured that could be considered OKOM,
e.g. Oscar Peterson, Lester Young, Eddie Daniels, Buddy Rich, DIVA, et
al.

For information see: http://jazzimprov.com/guide/

IMO the magazine is wonderful. Interviews with all sorts of people in
jazz which gives fans an "inside" look at the players and their
habitat. It also gives you a look at what's happening in jazz in NYC,
lists of clubs/events and paid listings/ads of who's playing where.

Folks like Jon Erik Kellso are listed (Ear Inn on Sundays), Eddy Davis
N.O. Jazz Band (mondays) etc., and I believe these listings are free.
(note to Bruce McN et al-get listed
Submit listings to <jazz at jazzimprov.com>, include date,
times, location, phone for additional info and/or tickets &
reservations. Deadline is 14th of month preceding publication
