[Dixielandjazz] Verse for "A Good Man Is ...."

Can anyone shed any light on some of the verse lyrics for, "A Good Man  Is 
Hard to Find"?
I have checked several sources which all print the verse lyrics as  thus:
My heart's sad and I am all forlorn.
My man's treating me mean.
I regret the day that I was born,
and that man of mine I've ever seen.
My happiness, it never lasts a day.
My heart is breaking while I say,
 
Well, line four makes no sense.  Is that what was originally written  and 
by whom?
