It is totally engrossing and enjoyable. It's just Johnny and a piano accompanist who segues perfectly, continuously, through dozens of key and tempo changes and cues. My question is -- WHO IN HECK COULD THAT WONDERFUL PIANIST BE? The friend who gave the CD copy to me doesn't know either.

Dear Bob: If I had to make guesses, based on who Johnny ofte had bcking
him at Capitol inthe days when he and Genn Wallach started the lable if
could be one of these:
Paul Weston (who used to be a solo pianist at the Ambassador East in
Chicago in the 30's before joining Tommy Dorsey. Very Accomplished.
Bobby Van Epps (George's brother)
Stan Wrightsman
Bobby Hammock
And of course these are all guesses based on who was doing that kind of
work in his L.A. days.
If nothing else, I bought up some good subject names for further list
comments.
Our leaves are turning and fall is moving in-- time to dig out some
more tapes when the snow falls and copy to CD or DVD and ship a couple
you way. The stuff you sent me with my old road mate Jack Perciful was
so gratefully received. Hey - Jack could have done that comping as well.
By the way - was that Mercer stuff commercially available? Where - who?
