Sorry to hear the sad news.  I don't know a thing about the "Bix controversy".
But I did learn a lot about jazz history by reading "Lost Chords", a monumental
work of research---it seems to me.  A very large contribution to jazz literature.

As to "The Torch".  I found a nice version from the Bill Borcher CD "Hitting
the Double Nickel" which was released a few years ago.
