[Dixielandjazz] Richard Sudhalter

I know that there are many in the Bixian world who excoriate Mr
Sudhalter (and I spent several hours in the living room of the widow of
the late Phil Evans, learning much), but he is a human being, and he, to
the best of his abilities, did what he thought was right, even though
many did not, and do not, approve.

But a genuine icon of jazz history is apparently on his way out, and I
hope we can all hold positive thoughts about him at this time,
regardless of our opinions.

I wept when I read this post, as even though there may be much to
question in the Evans-Sudhalter Bix bio, it's how I came into the
picture, and even had my paperback copy professionally rebound, away on
back in '92. (And used the discography, meticulously, while searching
for 78s.)

Let us all join hands, in some sense, in concern for the plight of Mr
Sudhalter.
