For the best Brass Bands you pretty much have to go to "The
North" (around Yorkshire, mostly) - there are several good websites
that list all the BB activity. Trad Jazz - try Liverpool and
Edinburgh, but there are several other good places scattered about.
Pubs are generally good or horrible anywhere, I have found. You have
to pick and choose, and watch out for Football (Soccer) Hooligan
kinds of places (unless you are actually looking for a fight ;-)
I am out the door right now, but I will dig up some links later. I am
also sure there are others who will contribute ideas... Avoid package
tours - you can get a train pass that will get you to most of the
good places and it is not like the natives speak some unintelligible
language (mostly - unless you end up in Wales.)
