I'm very sorry to report that Atlanta Jazz Party producer Phil Carroll died  
of cancer this morning at his home in Lookout Mountain, Tenn. Besides his wife 
of 58 years, Atlee “Lee”  O’Brien Carroll, he is survived by his daughters 
Glenn Carroll Boatenreiter and  her husband Patrick of Decatur, GA., and 
Shelley Carroll Thessen and husband Dan  of Laurel, MD., his son Philip Carroll and 
fiancé Pualani Chapman of Roswell, GA. His grandchildren are Jesse Carroll  
Rowton, Jamie Rose Rowton of College Park,  MD, and Philip “Trey” Carroll of 
Roswell, GA.  His  step-grandchildren are Courtney and Callie Thessen and 
Stephanie Boatenreiter  Phillips. His step-great grandchildren are Raleigh and 
Conner Phillips.  Surviving sisters are Margaret Carroll Finch, Jeane Carroll 
Custin, and Patricia  Carroll Buehler and Bud.  Also surviving are several much 
loved nieces and  nephews.  A memorial service will be held at the Church of the 
Good  Shepherd on Lookout Mountain on Friday, October 17, 2008 at  11:00 AM.  
The family will receive friends one hour prior. In lieu of  flowers, memorials 
may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 2700 Parkwood Avenue, Chattanooga, TN  
37404, or the American  Cancer Society, 850 Fortwood  Street, Chattanooga, TN 
 37403.  Cremation Society of the  SOUTH is in charge of the arrangements,

Phil was a very good guy, and he and Lee  have greatly enhanced the world of 
classic jazz through their efforts. The  Atlanta Jazz Party has always been 
top quality, and Phil showed great courage  and dedication in proceeding with 
the event when faced with cancer several years  ago. His death is a great loss 
to the world of trad  jazz.
