[Dixielandjazz] The World Turned Upside Down

The confusion over the "tune" The World Turned Upside Down, may stem
from historical accounts from the UK vs. those from the USA. <grin>
In those days many tunes were borrowed from earlier songs. (Like our
own National Anthem which put new words to the music of an older
English Drinking song). In the "Upside Down"case, the words to an old
ballad called "The World Turned Upside Down", written circa 1643 or
1646, were sung to the Music of "When The King Enjoys His Own" again.
Scholars still argue as to which song the English played. Or
whether,min fact, they had a band at all.
