Hi all,
I just got back from a weekend long event in Seattle called Honk Fest
West - nothing but young (or young in spirit) street brass bands
playing all kinds of jazz, "rawkus" rock, funky sambas and Balkan
Brass in the streets, bars and parks of the city. It was a whole lot
of fun and we made a somewhat big impression on the night-life of
Seattle. The last day was a non-stop jam session with maybe 40-50
brass and an equal number of drums & percussion playing (and
learning) all kinds of music. I did what i could to encourage New
Orleans style brass band - it is a hard thing to teach in the
streets, but we did get some good things going on!
There will be another HonkFest in the Boston area this October, and I
will bet there will be another one someplace on the West Coast in the
future.

and band links.
There is a YahooGroup called Streetband that covers this sort of
music, by the way. Some of the DJML members are on it ;-)
