Thanks to all who registered their advice, and to others who might still do so.
It is a bit tricky with trying to find potential players as well as fans and suitable location plus the best available timeslot.
This is not because all of the local musicians and locations have been otherwise taken up, but because there are not enough of them.
Best ideas:
Advertise widely in all media;
Use existing jazz networks to locate people who might have a fourth Sunday free to make regular monthly visits;
Collect cash for paying visiting bands - in the hat rather than via membership fee at the start;
Possibly broadening the range of music (and musicians) such as running a Jazz and Klesma club;
Maybe import a top-name player, or group, to kick off;
Start small, with the option of becoming more commercially based later on.
Am thinking about:
Going MySpace with pictures and MP3s of procedings;
Investing in a range of chordbooks to stimulate ideas and the music played;
Having a portable player and some choice recordings on hand to fill in any quiet spots;
Mocking up a Constitution for the club, so we can formalise the situation when required.
Still gathering information.
Not ready to start a Lithgow Jazz Club yet,
