Ferdinand Feghoot was a character in science fiction magazine stories 40 -
50 years ago.

The stories about him were usually one page long and elaborately led up to a
last sentence punchline which always was a pun, sometimes several layers
deep.

The one I remember best told of the discovery of a planet inhabited by
intelligent antelopes. The antelopes wanted to join the Galactic Federation,
but one of the membership requirements was that would-be members had to be
creative as well as simply imitatively intelligent.

Ferdinand Feghoot was sent to investigate the new planet.

After many weeks, he had found that the antelopes had not a spark of
creativity, even though they were all fanatically expert Scrabble players.

He denied them membership with the single sentence: "Typical gnus and tilers
too."
