Subject: [jazz-research] Radio France fires jazz hosts

Hello everyone, in a surprise move Radio France (France Musique) just fired
four of its longstanding, and best, jazz hosts - Philippe Carles, Claude
Carriere, Jean Delmas and Alain Gerber - saying the network wants to "be
younger" (all four are over 65).

Since these four have many friends, I wanted to pass the news along. Blogger
Martine Palme has started an online petition to encourage Radio France to
maintain its commitment to jazz programming, even if their decision to fire
the four is irreversible.

The great concern here is that Radio France will not replace these programs,
but will rather use this as an excuse to cut back on jazz in the name of
being "contemporary" (as the BBC has done).

If you would like to add your name to this petition, send an email with the
subject line "petition france musique" to Martine at
initiales at martinepalme.com or visit www.martinepalme.com.

Thanks to all, Tim Wilkins
