I don't believe there was a "style change." Obviously, some players had a
different approach than others. Even Eddie Edwards played a somewhat
"sweeter" style on occasions. Just because there may not be recorded
evidence doesn't necessarily mean that all was raucous tailgate.

Again, I second the thoughts on Miff Mole, especially over Teagarden,
since Miff was playing (at least on record) before Jack ever hit New York.
Miff also worked symphonic gigs, and played under Toscanini at one point.

Miff was a big influence on a lots of trombonists including Dorsey.
