The July - August new Hot Jazz Channel show is now "live" at
www.radiojazz.co.uk
This month's offerings could be subtitled "Celebrating the roots" because
they feature not only jazz repertoire roots but also many of the musicians
who either were themselves root stock or nurtured them during the revival
era.
Featured first this month are the George Lewis band with Thomas Jefferson,
the Alan Gresty - Brian White's Muggsy Remembered band follow as do Kid
Ory's band with Papa Mutt Carey. Doc Evans Band are also featured as are
Geoff Cole's Red Hot Five and Manchester's Mart Rodger. The Natural Gas Jazz
Band make a welcome reappearance as do the Peter Bocage Band with Alphonse
Picou and the New Black Eagle Jazz band. The Pasadena Roof Orchestra are
featured with a track from their new "Roots of swing" CD and blues man
Howlin' Wolf is heard with the Chris Barber band. The Yerba Buena Stompers
represent America's West Coast whilst the Wolverine Jazz Orchestra and Ken
Mathieson's Scottish jazz orchestra remind us of the Bix era with an
orchestration of "In A Mist". Bringing up the tail is a track from a
rumbustuous live session by the French Preservation New Orleans Jazz band
with Big Bill Bissonnette and Fred Vigorito.
A new feature on the Hot Jazz Channel web site this month is a listener's
opinion forum where enthusiasts can make comments about the shows.
The Hot Jazz Channel shows are engineered by John Booth and devised and
presented by Brian Harvey
