Hi all,

A friend is trying to recall the title and artist of a record he had
as a child. The following is the lyrics as best as he remembers - but
they are not 100 % correct. He thinks it was probably recorded in the
40s - just a guy and his guitar.

I have quickly checked my library and references, done a Google
search on chunks of the lyrics, no results.

Any ideas?

Listen let me tell what the engine's done,
She left 'Naaawlins 'bout a quarter to one.
The engineer sez, he sez, "Boy, hey!
"I gotta make connections with the Santa Fe!"

And the Santa Fe runs all night
Trying to keep up with the old Red Light
And the old Red Light sure does roar -
Trying to make connections the old West Shore.

And the old West Shore runs to the sea
Trying to keep up with the N K and T
And the N K and T runs a good gait -
Trying to make connections with the Nickel Plate.

And the Nickel Plate runs through the thicket
Trying to keep up with the Missouri and the Pacific
And the Missouri and the Pacific runs through the alley -
Trying to make connections with the Lehigh Valley.

And the Lehigh Valley steps about
Trying to make connections with the Lackawanna Route
And Lackawanna Route raises Cain -
Trying to keep up with the Boston Maine.

And the Boston Maine hands you the bunk!
Trying to keep up with the old Grand Trunk
And the old Grand Truck beats them all -
Trying to make connections with the Cannonball.

AND the Cannonball carries the load
Trying to make connections with the Pennsylvania Road
And the Pennsylvania Road runs like a fountain -
Trying to make connections with the Iron Mountain.

(and it goes on and on, more stanzas, more trains, and ending with
something like ---)

--and the BO runs along fine
Trying to make connections with the Erie Line
And the Erie Line, behind so far
Can't - make - connections to a trolley car!!!
