DigStation and Other Options
To see what I’m talking about there, go to:
http://www.digstation.com/AlbumDetails.aspx?albumid=ALB000013077
DigStation is the best I’ve found, and here’s why:
1. They give you 100% of your sales revenue. This is a recent change, and
even before their payout was one of the highest. They said they may start
charging a $10 or so fee to carry our CDs (mp3s), but so far not.
2. They have very high quality mp3 downloads. Their downloads include: 192
kbps CBR MP3 Audio Files, Album Cover Art and/or Liner notes. Most companies
don’t provide the artwork & liner notes option.
3. I can get sales info at any time.
Two downside to DigStation:
1. The currently don’t have a music Widget, so you have to work with links
or graphic links. That will probably change in the future.
VERY IMPORTANT: On all of the sites I’ve joined that offer CD (mp3) sales
and I did not like their terms, percentages, song sample options, I just place
a link to my DigStation on that particular site instead of using their “in
house” option.
2. The only way you can be listed on DigStation is by having your CD
produced by one of their replication partners, such Oasis or Discmakers. The GOOD
NEWS is when you get your CD done by them, they do all the work listing it for
you on DigStation.
OK, so you didn’t get your CD done with Oasis, what are your options?
First, STAY FAR AWAY FROM SNOCAP!!! I strongly advise against listing your
mp3s with SnoCap as all I’ve heard are horror stories and no payments made.
STAY AWAY!
An interesting option is the Website Music Player. Go to:
http://www.websitemusicplayer.com/index.php
It gives you all kinds of flexibility as you as it is a store you can create
and place on any website you wish. You pay a monthly or annual membership
for the file hosting & bandwidth. This solution really gives you the most
options, with some awesome features including collecting the emails from all the
orders, BUT unless you’re selling a good number of downloads, this may not be
worth the investment.
Other options that rate better than many:
http://www.nimbit.com/ 80% payout
http://musicane.com/
For all free accounts musicane pays you 60% of each sale you make. If you
would like to earn 80% of all of your sales revenue, you can subscribe to
musicane for 19.99/ month. Musicane gives your fans the option of selling your
music on their site and earning a commission.
http://fandoodle.com/
FanDoodle has created a new, patent pending way to distribute music where
Fans get paid to promote music. They (the Fans) get 20% of the proceeds of each
album sold as a result of their promotion activities. Here's how it works:
Artists invite Fans to be partners. Fans are directed to an Artist's page at
FanDoodle.com where they get code for banner ads and text links. These banners
and text links take visitors to a page where the Artist's CD is sold. Fans
insert this code in their web pages and emails and get paid $2.00 - $4.00 per
CD sold. FanDoodle.com and its partner, FreakyDoodle Records, handle the
tracking of Fan sales, payment of earnings via Paypal, and warehousing and mailing
of the CD's.
Hope this is helpful to someone!
