ISLAND MUSIC: BANJO & UKULELE
Eddie Peobody combined the banjo with island music long before it was popular as
you can see in his 1940's short, Song of the Islands [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001NezY478MCKPw0d20lnDS1YwwxeCGPtvnsHNTJ7vTI6HR7FvOoMttil9mkNDHGAsenq3VRw6N_7cplLjaC1fV17m0NUivu4sZwFGCvk342EcrzrsQn8Ta-kpHWg3qq5WKd_S4aBDVgKRqLVtXcM1pkfT14fjOVh0t5UcLhXWZY6I=]

. I have recently found two ukulele artists who, if you do not know of them, I would
like to introduce to you. They are the young, talented Jake Shimabukuro performing
While My Guitar Gently Weeps [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001NezY478MCKNQDfTdWIWJ5YYEOJiAXM4LFXhkQizKrzr2NdQJ_F__UkVAPnBTvBrrzf4dm7O9nI_qdP0Vkt_8U8ve_ZiBwkaGbS12QYbBEOOlt88g4ogVdZkXP-FqTB7UNAA84ITfc-J2NFNFE86oPELm0Hy9Jas2iuRH3j8I9Bg=]
and
the late, great
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole performing his now famous rendition of Over the Rainbow. [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001NezY478MCKOc6GxPDGBBowyw826jkiIST9C1UmaZ__9D6iIxt6SYCTuuu03C4vAHjASoOvO_xsGZsZL6zNPVIcAQMs5I7e37dUcUfk_DnEhJMRcHxeF1LvzsYEb_3sZDmoQCJ77ltcMGzulyenvEpg==]

A New Band after 30 Years
The first time I heard Gary Neuman play piano he was performing with the late Bill
Carlson at Petars in Lafayette, Ca. The year was 1977. I was a student at U C
Berkeley and I was recording a jazz recording with John Stafford with our band,
Jazzmen Tea [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001NezY478MCKNQsIVfyVhfMOXEjA5bMuklP7d2fdy7DuQrZhD-CRLrfPIzOL2VOos9rG-syOPKzGXxGAbLu_aOwCe76IJBlPYO6tx1cNYBTa2NaOwvcy7ZrpIqD0PInx8S].
Now, after 30 years, circumstances have reunited us as Jack Convery & Friends
and we will be performing every saturday night in February, 2008 at the San Franciscan.
