Dear Craig,
This is what I have on file.
It all appeared on the DJML in mid January 2006.

 From Craig Johnson:
"Thanks to John Birchall I now have a lead sheet for "Indian Sagua"
Thanks John...
I'll be quite interested in what Bill Haesler and Brian Harvey find out
about this tune.
I've got quite a number of "untitled tunes" in my head as a result of my
listening to a variety of old tapes in my car. This is before the mp3
files where you
can see the title on the display -- of the tune that is playing. This
leads to
my saying to the band: "I don't know the name of this tune, but it goes:
"dah, dee, dah, dah..... etc , Let's go boys, a-one and a-two and a-"
I know I've heard this tune many times before, but never called "Indian
Sagua" as I know that is not on any of my tapes by that name. I'd love
to know the
other title(s).
Thanks guys,
Craig ("start the bubble machine") Johnson

 From Brian Harvey:
"It was in the repertoire of Kid Howard and is on his "La Vida Band"
CD -
ref AMCD-54.
I have asked Doug Landau Editor of New Orleans Music magazine what tune
it
is based on and will post his reply when I get it. The reason I asked
him is
that he's probably the greatest Kid Howard expert and a musician. So he
should know.

 From Bill Haesler:
"I have spoken to Adrian Ford, who has promised to look out the sheet
music
of "Indian Sagua" that has all the parts and which, I think he said,
came
from the Tulane University in the 60s.
Adrian used the sheet music for the April 1982 Nick Boston Jazz Band
version
mentioned in my earlier email.
Adrian had already recorded it with his Unity Jazz Band in March 1973
based,
I believe, on the George Lewis recording.
The first issued recording of the tune (which reminds me of "King of the
Zulus" in parts) was made by George Lewis for Atlantic on 7 July 1962.
This
is the one I have had for yonks.
Charlie Love did an earlier version on 15 Aug 1960 as "Indian Sau Wau",
but
it remained unissued until the 504 Records CD 21. I do not have this.
I don't have the Kid Howard La Vida Band AMCD-54 mentioned by Brian
Harvey
but assume that this is the Icon version made on 13 Aug 1961 (on a GHB
LP),
which I do not have either.
More, as it comes to hand.
Kind regards,
Bill.

 From Louis Lince:
   "Hi Bill,
You are correct about the Kid Howard recording date. It was an Icon that
came out on GHB. The tune is reminiscent of the first theme to the Lee
Collins/Little Brother Montgomery 1947 recording of El Ritmo...before it
turns from the minor to a 12-bar blues...(Dm to F...Oh that old thing!!)
best
Louis"

At that point, I think it all petered out.
I do't recall my mate, DJML Adrian Ford finding his charts?
Wot say Adrian?
Kind regards,
Bill.
