Dear Frank

Ah / I have found a contact for you hopefully ?

Allow me to introduce myself to you /Phil Wright long time Jazz
guitarist/teacher/author here in Australia, and currently writing my latest
book: "the Jewish contribution to 20th Century Music" which has been a
wonderful experience for me

You may have known or known of my lecturer at college here in 1975-76 who
was the late saxophonist/composer Dave Van Kriedt (1922-1994)of
Brubeck(1940-1948) and Kenton(1955) fame ,who sadly passed away here in
Newcastle, New South Wales in 1994.

Dave studied with Brubeck under Darius Milhaud (1982-1974 - who features in
my book)at Mills college in 1940's and in fact introduced Paul Desmond to
Dave Brubeck in 1944

Frank I just got your name from looking at relevant photos in my copy of
Woody Herman's "Chronicles of the Herds"

I am seeking a photograph that hopefully you can help me with of one
particular 1948 Woody Herman Second Herd ?

Frank if you firstly click on 'INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET GUILD JOURNAL" (a
dedication to Trumpeter/teacher Charles Colin) and scroll down to FIGURE 16
you will see a 1948 photo of the SECOND HERD that has the personnel closest
to a photograph I WOULD LIKE FOR MY BOOK (only this photo has Harry
Babason-bass and Fred Otis-piano) and not Lou Levy-piano and Chubby
Jackson-bass)

Therefore I will give you the personnel of the Second herd's personnel from
a December 29th and 30th 1948 recording in Hollywood and see if such a
photograph exists ????

I realise Woody was not Jewish ,but I want to find a photograph of this band
as it perfectly illustrates the wonderful young musicians (of Jewish
descent) who began with Woody.

TRUMPETS: Stan Fishelson ?,Bernie Glow, RED RODNEY,SHORTY ROGERS, Ernie
