Wendell Brunius was Leader(?) of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on a gig at a Summer Theater in Connecticut in the late 80's. They were playing between Pete Fountain and Al Hirt's bands. Al was "Ill" and performing poorly and Wendell was embarrased to play to his capability for fear of upstaging Al. Wendell was a wonderful player.
