Yes I take the point and we did feel that the crew (however poorly they 
might have been paid by our standards) were well treated. Everyone has their 
price,
and I suppose this playing on cruises thing is a case in point.  I still 
think swapping one's talent in return for 2 free passages isn't a bad 
bargain but I respect the right of others to stay home in the snow :-)

We had the same impression as you in the Caribbean.  EXCEPT Martinique which 
was French to the bone, bad news for those without euros or at least a 
smattering of the language!
