Hello,
Some time ago there was a trend on reading and non-reading musicians.
At taht time, I commented that Kid Thomas must have been a reader,
since he used to bring "music" for the band to play new songs.  Now I
have come across the following, published in the Jazz Beat:
"Thomas completed his formal musical education ..., with theory and
harmony lessons from Manuel "Fess" Manetta."
That seems to put him squarely in the "readers"  category.
