Zeke Zarchy who played first trumpet in the original Glen Miller Army Air
Force Band told me that Glenn was nothing like Jimmy Stewart portrayed him.
Glenn was a business man who knew exactly what he wanted. Whereas Stewart
played him like a bumbling, indecisive person.
Zeke said that the only true parts of the Glenn Miller Story film was that
Glenn was a band leader and that he played trombone.
Incidentally, Zeke also played trumpet on the sound track of the GM Story.
Too bad Hollywood feels that they have to change stories and cornball them
up.
As a teenager, I loved the Benny Goodman Story. I didn't care about the
acting, I loved the music. I went right out and bought the double album of
the original Carnegie Hall '38 concert and proceeded to wear it out.
I always wished that I could have been there. So when Turk Murphy played
Carnegie Hall, I wasn't going to miss it.

"My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or
a politician. And to
tell the truth, there's hardly any difference. I, for one, believe the piano
player job to be much more honorable than current politicians." --Harry
Truman
