[Dixielandjazz] DJs are laughable

Kent;

The talent of the DJ is what it has always been to spin the music for the
audience. Those who have a feel for the musical needs of their audience have
always risen to the top of the heap and have been paid accordingly. Today's
club DJs play for dancers and can sense when the time in appropriate to
alter the mood or tempo or beat of the music.

If you can do this well, dance club owners will pay more for someone who can
attract customers.

After all, isn't that the reason why Glenn Miller's band was paid so much to
play at the Café Rouge in the Hotel Pennsylvania?

When you watch one of these DJs work, they look and act as though they
have some part in the creation of the music and perhaps even think of
themselves a musicians. I think the audience also tends to identify the
DJ as having musical skills since he controls the sound and picks the
tunes played. It's a brave new world. I read where one of the Baldwin
brothers (the one that can't act) was being paid more than 20k per night
to DJ somewhere in France. When was the last time you brought home 20K
from a gig?
