brycejo at comcast.net mentioned: I also read where Fazola and Billy
Butterfield hated each other from the moment of their meeting. I don't
know why, but Butterfiled eventually moved to Shaw's band where he was
happier.

Dear Jack,
You may be confusing two stories.
Billy Butterfield and Irving Fazola left the Bob Crosby band,
coincidentally, on the same day. 1st June 1940.
Fazola had handed in his notice after a grog-fueled 'fist' fight with
trombonist Ray Conniff,
Billy left because his wife was becoming unhappy with his long touring
absences.
By all accounts it seems that Billy and Faz got on well together,
notwithstanding Faz's drinking and well-documented mood-swings.
Both Conniff and Butterfield later ended up with Artie Shaw.
Kind regards,
Bill.
