I have never come across any reference to Eddie Miller being influenced by
anyone else, or that he played alto although most reed players can switch.
MILLER, Edward Raymond “Eddie” Tenor sax; clarinet
Born 1911, Jun 23; New Orleans Died 1991, Apr 1
Real name Müller. Most people who knew him commented on his fine playing but
also mention his diminutive stature. Worked local gigs whilst still in his
teens. Played with the New Orleans Owls in 1928. Left to achieve world fame
with Ben Pollack and Bob Crosby. Recorded: Bob Crosby Bob Cats; also Wingy
Manone; and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings Revival; plus Louis Prima, etc. Worked
mostly in New Orleans from 1967 to 1976 when he went to California. Toured
Europe and was at the 1981 Nice Jazz Festival with Bob Crosby. In 1988 he
suffered a stroke which ended his playing career.
