A list mate sent me this startling information about recording technology
and re-performance of old records with poor sound to absolutely modern day
sound. So far, only piano music, but later, who knows. They've done it to
Gould's 1955 Goldberg variations and some Art Tatum recordings are on the
horizon. Basically by computerizing the older records and then transferring
them to a computerized Disclavier Concert Grand piano. (in Gould's case)

Listen to the sound differences (not Gould but Alfred Cortot who often
played about 10% more notes than were in the scores when performing) at:
http://zenph.com/listen.html

Read the Article at:
http://www.paul-lehrman.com/insider/2005/12insider.html

Then if still interested, surf the entire site. They've even issued the
Gould in binaural which makes it sound like you are sitting on the piano
bench where Gould sat when he recorded it.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
