Myths:
It's historically true that prostitution hardly diminished in New Orleans  
when the District was closed - the whores just moved elsewhere unhindered by  
NO's finest who had too much to lose. That farrago of nonsense, the New Orleans  
movie, just ignored the truth in typical Hollywood fashion. The loudest music 
in  the District was the ringing of cash registers. Most of the music was 
provided  in the nearby "Tango Belt" to which Louis Armstrong was no doubt 
referring. In  any case there were TWO Districts in effect since apart from whores 
blacks were,  shall we say, unwelcome in the white District.
