Below the complete text of this song, as I taped it way back in November
1961 from BBC's "Trad Tavern".
WRESTLING TILL THE WAGON COMES (as sung by Ottilie Patterson & Chris Barber)
OP: Listen here, daddy, you don't treat your mama right
You know you stay out late, come home and beat me up every night
CB: You know I beat you, I dog you, I treated you mean as I could
OP: Yes, he beats me and mistreats me
CB: Mama, you know it does you good
I only stayed out until half past three
OP: When he come home he tried to ignore me
CB: Now listen here, mama, you're so jealous, you have made me sore
OP: Hear, daddy, here's something that I want you to know
Don't get so drunk, baby, don't get so drunk, baby, don't get so drunk,
I say that you don't know me
But if you take my money, believe me, it ain't funny
I'll knock your head until the wagon comes
CB: Now it ain't no use you're argueing, I said it just ain't no use you're
argueing, oh, it ain't no use you're argueing, and baby you know just what I
mean
OP+CB: And if you don't act straight, I'm gonna ruin' your state
and we'll be wrestling till the wagon comes.
It should be from 1926. Who knows the composer and textwriter?
