[Dixielandjazz] Call Him George

Sorry, Audrey. I was not trying to save the E-bayer who did such poor
research. That is why I said that a little Googling is a dangerous thing.
He must have read neither the information for trombonist Lewis nor any of
the book about clarinetist Lewis.

Nice try at a save for whoever posted that ebay item, Ron. Next time I
mistake a reference, please feel invited in advance to jump in and save
me. However, while there might be two George Lewis's, I doubt there are
two books titled "Call Him George." And "Call Him George" is about GL
the NO clarinetist. There is a slight discrepancy in the two editions
of the book that perhaps someone out there might be able to clear up.
The American edition of the book has "Ann Fairbairn" as the author on
the spine of the book, but on the copyright page, it is attributed to
Dorothy Tait. The English Jazz Book Club edition has the name "Jay
Allison Stewart" on the cover as the author, but the copyright page
again has Dorothy Tait. Anybody know anything about the author, and why
Ms. Tait, if that's who she was, used two different pseudonyms?

Now I'm going to go and listen to some George Lewis to clear my mind.
