One ofthe best Jazz Festivals in the East. Not a lot of OKOM, but what is
there is superb.

What better way to spend a June afternoon than listening to great jazz in a
beautiful setting while enjoying a sumptuous picnic with friends and fellow
jazz lovers. And, when not enjoying non-stop music from 14 great bands, you
can browse through the huge collection of hard-to-find jazz CDs from our
vendors.
The New Jersey Jazz Society presents NJs longest-running jazz festival on
the campus of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey on Saturday and Sunday,
June 9 and 10, from noon to six each day. Bring your own picnic or choose
from a wide array of gourmet treats available.
On Saturday, June 9, the featured artists will include:
Winard Harper Sextet
Hendrik Meurkens Samba Jazz Quintet
Five Play, featuring musicians from Diva
Sarah Partridge and Her Trio
Bob Dorough Trio
Midiri Brothers Band
On Sunday, June 10, the featured artists will be:
Ken Peplowski Quintet
Earl May Quintet featuring Houston Person
Dick Meldonian Big Band
Nilson Mattas Brazilian Voyage Band featuring Harry Allen
Jay Leonhart Trio
Nancy Nelson Trio
Jazzfest kicks off with a free outdoor concert on June 2 headlined by two
great bands:
The 8-piece Duke Ellington Legacy Band led by Edward Kennedy Ellington II,
and featuring Virginia Mayhew and Wycliffe Gordon
The 9-piece Ed Polcer Band, featuring James Chirillo and Dan Levinson.
Weather permitting the concert will be held on Carriage House Field on the
Drew University campus in Madison. The concert begins at 6:00 pm. If it
rains, the concert will move to Baldwin Gymnasium.
All of the Jazzfest events have been made possible by the generous support
of corporations and local organizations, including Bank of America, PNC
Wealth Management, RexCorp, Verizon, Drew University, Toyota of Morristown,
WBGO Jazz88FM, the Star-Ledger and JazzTimes Magazine.
The Hamilton Park Hotel on Park Avenue in Florham Park is the official
festival hotel and offers special discount room rates for attendees.
The Hamilton Park Hotel also will host a jazz buffet dinner with singer
Carrie Jackson and her Trio on Saturday, June 9, starting at 6:00 PM.
The New Jersey Jazz Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the
performance, promotion and preservation of jazz. Through concerts, outreach
programs in schools and scholarships for young musicians, the Society is
devoted to making jazz an integral part of New Jerseys cultural life.
