[Dixielandjazz] Bending notes on the piano?

Below is a snip from a post that Norman Vickers forwarded to his musical
list. I remember DJML posts about "bending" piano notes, or the
impossibility thereof from several years ago. Bill Gunther may also. We
spoke about how Monk played minor seconds, and by exerting more pressure on
the lower note, caused it to sound longer than the upper note, thus fooling
the ear into thinking the upper note had been bent.

"and it's interesting that Walter appears in a very recent documentary about
the german composer, matthias pinscher, in which he demonstrates his new
technique of causing notes played on the piano to bend - this is quite a
remarkable thing to see and hear, and an irony in light of his experience
with ornette's music nearly fifty years ago!"

The Walter spoken of above, is Walter Norris, a pianist who played on the
very first Ornette Coleman recording, circa 1959. (Coleman bent a lot of
notes in the early days) Is anyone on the List familiar with Norris's
technique of "bending" piano notes? Or fooling the ear into thinking that
the notes are bending since piano is a tempered instrument?

Cheers,
