Hi Bill.
It's really too bad that RCA screwed up the transfers for the 1935-6
set--some of it sounds "underwater". This is my favorite period for the
Goodman big band (before it changes it's sound during 1936). One specific
reason I love it is because the *guitar* is prominent, and Reuss does some
very tasty diddlies, especially on "Goodbye".
Speaking of guitar diddlies, I just listened to Bert Lowns' orch. playing
"Bye bye blues". This is a square 2-beat foxtrot, but not Lombardo sweet,
especially after the vocal, where Tommy Felline does increasingly active
Eddie Lang-type fills, joined in on the last chorus by active vibes.
