It would be great to hear. but Steve's mention of a "battle of the
bands" was already done once at the Central City, CO Jazz Festival in a
joint venture of the Jim Cullem Jazz Band and the Sons of Bix, who
joined their two bands for a few sets where each band furnished a chart
from the Goldkette and Whiteman band. John Sheridan and Don Gibson did
the charts and these twin admirers (Band wise) of the Bix period music
pulled it off. I was delighted to take part and also had the forethought
to have wife record it -- via a pocket-sized stereo cassette. Not studio
quality by any means, but it was a one hell of a venture and more
musical fun than most will ever have playing.
In practice, Steve's suggested concept works! Hope the bands go for it.
