[Dixielandjazz] Fletcher Henderson's "Wrappin It Up"

A lot of times the Goodman band plays some of these arrangements at a much
slower tempo than the Henderson band did. (I'm thinking of things like
"Down South Camp Meeting" and "Christopher Columbus" which sound like dirges
compared to the Henderson versions.

Henderson's ensemble work went to hell after his automobile accident (I
think around 1929). He was already not a very strict disciplinarian, and
after the accident it got even worse.

Steve;

Many of Henderson's arrangements which Fletch provided for Benny Goodman
were written for his own band and not modified for BG. My own take on these
studio recordings is that the Goodman orchestra sounded much better than the
Henderson band. The solos, for the most part, were better on the Henderson
discs.
