Hey folks we are all into Old Timey Music on here of various genres:
hence "OKOM"

It would certainly behove Traditional Jazz Societies to embrace some of
the other old time music and hire some of the really hot groups that
play it to their festivals for a change of pace and added variety and
God forbid expand the audiences of all kinds of OKOM.

A Red hot High energy Bluegrass act could be touted easily as
"Hillbilly Jazz" and they would attract their own audiences if you
promoted them and their music to their audiences as well right along
side Rag Time, Dixieland, and Swing, Zydeco, Blues, Smooth Jazz, or any
other off shoot of Jazz music.

There really is more than just two kinds of good music reach out and
touch someone and invite them to join your organizations and grow them
beyond being a small private club of the elite who like just what YOU
LIKE. :))

All of their money is Green and will go to support your efforts, and
you might find that those that you support might support you in return
:))

If you don't personally like that style of music , sobeit, but don't
forget that there are others who do and will pay to hear it and their
favorite acts. Music is the universal language learn to use it for
your growth and continued success.

And if you really want your Youth Bands to grow up and continue playing
this kind of music , you had better show them some really Hot acts with
fire and energy to emulate or they will quickly give it up and go play
sports. I have seen some pretty sad youth bands, and the reason why
is that they sounded pretty much like their mentors and teachers bands.

Why do oI say this, just to stir up controversy on this list ?? no to
hopefully wake somebody up to how to really motivate these kids and
keep their interest what the world does not need is more lame boring
Dixieland bands, Let them experiment and create their own unique style,
even if it does have some other genre influences that lean towards what
the youth of today will actually relate to.

Now if they are already really hot players and have hot tunes and fire
and energy all well and good, if not do not hold them back and let them
chart their own course which just may not be the same one as many of
ours.

It really is OK to march to the beat of a different drummer :))

Cheers,

Tom Wiggins
