Interestingly enough Freberg made some of the funniest, most memorable TV
commercials from the '60s: Sunsweet raisins ("Today the pits, tomorrow the
wrinkles") and Geno's Pizza Rolls (with Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels as
the Lone Ranger and Tonto). He made very effective use of TV as a sales
medium.

Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Stan Freberg Radio vs. TV

I recall an interview with Stan Freberg many years ago. One of the questions
asked was why he concentrated on radio and not TV or movies.

He answered by telling comedic story. Painted a word picture quite vividly
so that the listener was enthralled. After he was finished he said something
like; "Now how can you expect me to do that on film."

He was a master of the spoken word and his descriptions reversed the old saw
that a picture is worth a thousand words. In his case, the opposite was
true.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
