[Dixielandjazz] The Kingdom of Swing

Bill -- I have the paperback version of "The Kingdom of Swing." Do you
have any questions about it?
Glancing back through it now, I'm surprised how little BG says about the
Carnegie Hall concert. I'm also interested in his description of how to
rehearse a band for new arrangements. I'll bet the wonderful studio
musicians we have today don't need or get the endless detailed rehearsing
Benny demanded. His description of rehearsing sections and individuals
sounds like preparing today's high school musicians. Actually, that's
what Jess Stacy said for the PBS "Kingdom of Swing" program. If you
recall, he said, "We rehearsed those damned arrangements until we hated them
before we ever played them in public."
