I guess I missed the lower part of tghat post. Am saddened by the
passing of Dave Remington, a great musician and a good friend of my
Chicago days.
Dave split the five night a week at Jazz Ltd. with Art Hodes, playing
Mon-Wed, and Art Fri/Sat. The overall feel of tha band has slightly
altered befuse both had their own often eccentric styles. But strong
players both.
Dave lived in Rockford for awhile and taught school, and then he went
post bop big band, grew castro beard and dressed in army fatigues and
was a lttle messed up. But he came back to reality and last time I
worked a quartette job with him near Interlochen, he played some of the
swingingest stride I ever heard him play.
A real character, but a good friend and I shall miss his unrestricted
sense of fun and his Slam Stewart styled piano solos.
Good road trip, old friend. See you at the rehearsal later.
