Hi all,
I was going through my newspapers today and finally took the time to
read the Sacramento News & Review (free alternative weekly newspaper)
I picked up during the festival. There was a 12 page "Alternative
Program" insert for the festival included in that issue
(but it is not in the http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento archives.)
In my opinion it was a well written section - it focused on the kinds
of acts and events that were probably more interesting for the
readers of that newspaper ( hip, active, mostly under 40 ) without
totally neglecting the rest of the festival. It did not "talk down"
to the reader but it was very honest about the situation of the aging
audience for traditional jazz.
I did not see any names associated with this "Alternative Program"
except Jon Hartley Fox, but great job - whoever you are.
I also think a pdf of it should be added to the sacjazz.com website
for other festival producers and promoters to be able to take a look.
And don't forget to utilize the alternative newspapers that are in
most metropolitan areas of the world. I always look for them wherever
I travel...

(they could have mentioned the California Repercussions, but I will
overlook that oversight ;-)
