[Dixielandjazz] Musicians talking during solos

Dear list mates,

Someone commented about musicians talking during Jonathan Russell's solo on
the YouTube clip. Well, perhaps you might kindly consider that this group
had never worked with a 12-year-old they knew little about. They had no idea
what to expect. And that is great! That is jazz! And it happens as it
happens. Yes, there are "arrangements while you wait." That is exactly why
you will see Russ Phillips and John Allred talking during Davy Jones' solo
on the clip I just posted about. So please, remember that while some
musicians are talented enough to jump on stage and wing it, they still need
to exchange a few words to plan within those brief moments during someone
else's solo.
