Actually, Steve Allen played Benny Goodman.  Jimmy Stweart played Glenn
Miller.  But your point is well made.  Neither Goodman nor Miller were the
nice guys portrayed in their biographies.

I spoken to musicians who worked with them and to put is mildly, Goodman was
an SOB and Miller was a caustic martinet. Tommy Dorsey was a nasty one too,
but I've knew a guy from Jimmy Dorsey's orchestra (Charlie Frazier) who said
that Jimmy was a sweet guy who never really wanted to run a band.
