[Dixielandjazz] Never thought I'd post a link like THIS

I hope everybody followed that link and then did a search on YouTube for
Gunhild Carling. There is a lot of stuff by her there, as a child,
teenager, and adult. She leads a very good big band (also featuring family
members), and a number of tunes by them have been uploaded to the site.

As I said in an earlier post, I never heard of her before, and now I can't
get enough of her. You have to admire somebody who can play trumpet like
Pops or Bix, trombone like Kid Ory, and bagpipes like...hmmm...no one I've
ever heard.

I agree that both videos are wonderful and terrific. How many listmates
ever tried to even play a chanter--the beginning instrument for bagpipes,
let
alone jazz bagpipe? My daughter-in-law gave me one a couple of years ago.

Since I play bassoon, I thought it would be easy to learn. NOT. Those
dratted
little grace notes that go on continually have no fingering resemblance to
the notes that follow them most of the time. So the chanter is back in its
box
and I have new respect for bagpipers!

What a joy to see the '84 clip of the Carling family also.

not tuba related at all, but this is a 2007 video featuring that little
girl
that played the Ory "Muskat Ramble" solo some 22 or so years ago.

and if you missed the Muskat video

pretty amazing stuff.
