It truly is a loss to the world of a great reporter and jazz writer,
whose keen observations and to the point reportage of the jazz scene in
many publications were as good as it gets. I have saved the eulogy he
wrote on the passing of "Uncle Rosey" -- Rosey McHargue. He understood
Rosey and his place in our jazz history and for those of us who knew
Rosey well -- (me all my life, litteraly since he subbed for my father
on Maury Sherman's band so dad could get to the hospital when I was
born) -- it was the perfect portrait in words of one fine jazzman.
Now we will wonder who will do as much and as well to speak about Floyd
as well as he has spoken for others of our shrinking traditional jazz
ranks. This passing of a fine man and excellent communicator is a large
loss to us all. Rest well, good man. It was sadly your time to write -30-.
