In my latest Hammacher-Schlemmer catalog
[http://www.hammacher.com/publish/73363.asp?promo=QSearch&ls=DA], they have
a turntable that can be used conventionally, plugged into a stereo system,
or directly into a PC through a USB connector. With the PC connection, you
can play records and record them directly as MP3's. It's item number
DA-73363 and lists for $168.95.

Quote from the web site:

"The system includes recording and cleaning software (PC/Mac) for the
removal of scratches, hisses, and pops, but will operate with any software
that supports USB audio input sound cards."

It sounds like a reasonably economical way to preserve the sounds from a
vinyl collection.

Cheers,

Ron Wheeler
