Dear friends,
Just catching up on a few old posts.
Charlie Suhor mentioned the Jazz on YouTube article by Gil Erskine in the
current (Dec. 2006) issue of the IAJRC Journal and added that it contained
references to film clips "too numerous to list here".
Fortunately, buried in this fine article is a reference to writer/critic
Terry Teachout's website <www.terryteachout.com> and its direct link to many
of the <youtube.com> jazz items.
Scroll down the links column on the right hand side to 'Video' and start
alphabetically with the great 10 minute 1932 Louis Armstrong short 'Rhapsody
in Black and Blue'. Allow a few hours surfing this one.
The December 2006 IAJRC Journal also contains an informative 12-page article
by John McDonough regarding the interesting story behind our recent thread
about the Benny Goodman 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert recordings, including
incisive comments on the latest Sony and Jasmine CD reissues.
And last but not least, while on the subject of the IAJRC Journal, I should
recommend a definitive biography in the August 2006 issue of the lesser
known, but great drummer Buddy Schutz by his friend Don Robertson.
Buddy who?
Schutz. Recorded with Benny Goodman (Nov 1938- April 1939) including some
significant trio and quartet sides.
Could this be our own listmate Don Robertson from Napa, CA ?
Kind regards,
Bill.
