We first heard Jimmy Haislip playing trombone in Sammy Gardner's Mound
City 6 in St Louis, Mo in 1958. I was there as a Hughes Aircraft
engineer working as part of a liaison team to McDonnell Aircraft. The
Mound City 6 was playing in a club called the Tiger's Den. Imagine our
surprise when Jimmy showed up with Cornet Chop Suey a couple of years
ago at Sacramento. The following year he was missing having had some
health/heart problems, but I saw him in Sun Valley in 2005 and he was
doing fine.
Somewhere I have an LP of the Mound City 6.
