I wonder - is anyone doing anything to mark Pee Wee Russell's 100th on March
27th?
Sadly I goofed and have missed the opportunity to do anything in my March
radio show - already recorded.
But we'll make up for it the following month.
Meanwhile I'd be delighted to hear of any concerts etc and if listmates have
any anecdotes to share (offline if you wish) I'd be delighted to hear them.
Maybe they could form the basis on an article I could put together?
Just talked last night with Virginia Kaminsky (Max's wife) who is alive and
well and we chatted about Max and Pee Wee and even about Bix. I met Max when
he toured the UK with Jack Teagarden, Earl Hines, Peanuts Hucko and others
in 1957 - it doesn't seem like 49 years ago - Max was a good kind and
slightly shy man.
And at a Welsh hills writer's group this week a new member declared himself
to be a one-time "sitter in" pianist from Jimmy Ryans way back.
