[Dixielandjazz] Jazz Bash by the Bay /Dixieland Monterey (Ca.)

Some of you may have read the quote in the latest American Rag
newspaper, by the publicist for the "Festival, formerly known as
Dixieland Monterey", stating they had changed the name and emphasis on
Dixieland Monterey, a name used for many years, to "Jazz Bash by the
Bay". Probably not stepping on a lot of toes name wise with that one!

The reason for the change of name, or double name to be more exact this
year, was that it was felt that the word "Dixieland" was driving away
many of the younger people. They wanted a name that more closely
described the current festival. That is what they came up with.

The other long time festival also going down this "slippery slope" to
oblivion for Dixieland Jazz, (after which this mailing list is named.
DJML=Dixieland Jazz Mailing List), is of course the Sacramento Jazz
Jubilee. Definitely a rose by another name also. More on that festival
in later months. Just more kinds of music there also.

The Sacramento JAZZ Jubilee also is doing its best this year to live
down the sigma of having the name "Dixieland" associated with the event.
I can assure you they still plan to have a LOT of bands formerly known
as Dixieland Bands. Most are listed under "Traditional" now. Perhaps
Steve would like to make a few comments on this turn of events? :-)

The name changes do not hide the fact that both upcoming events contain
bands playing a lot of OKOM (Our Kind of Music for the new members) and
I hope will be attended by as many of the DJML members as can make
either one or both as I plan to do. If I make it through this years
weather woes, it will be my first time to the Monterey festival, by any
other name.

If no one else has listed the participants of the Monterey Bash yet,
here is a quick rundown for March 2-3-4, 2007

Or call 831-633-5053

I most certainly do not work for their publicist due to my feelings
about these name changes, but I am interested in supporting the music,
as well as just talking about it. Mentioning my name will NOT get you
any discounts. You may be prevented from attending. See you there?
